Survey Name:
BOP42A (Non Life and Reinsurance Companies)
Business Area:
BOP and Financial Services (BOP and FS) Division and BOP Analysis and Dissemination (BOPAandD) Division (joint).
Survey Purpose:
To provide Balance of Payments and International Investment Position statistics. Results also used in compiling National Accounts estimates.
Legislative Basis:
Statistics (Balance of Payments and Financial Accounts) Order, 2005 (S.I. No. 124 of 2005) under the Statistics Act 1993; the European Communities (Collection of Statistics) Regulations, 1999; Council Regulation (EC) No. 2533/98 of 23 November 1998 concerning the collection of statistical information by the European Central Bank; and Regulation (EC) No 184/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 January 2005 on community statistics concerning balance of payments, international trade in services and foreign direct investment.
Periodicity:
Quarterly for large enterprises; annual for smaller enterprises (same requirements as for quarterly respondents)
Target Population:
Irish Companies, Irish captive companies and Irish branches of foreign companies which provide and/or procure non-life insurance/reinsurance services.
Sampling Frame:
BOP SMS register contains details of all relevant enterprises.
Survey Size:
Currently 53 quarterly and 205 annually i.e. 258 overall
Principal Variables Collected:
Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet data giving a geographical analysis of the flows and positions of assets and liabilities.
Principal External Users:
ECB, Eurostat, OECD, IMF, National Accounts, CIP, Economists, national users, Government Departments.
