Decrease of 4.8% in new private cars licensed
There were 10,469 new private cars licensed in January 2010, compared with 10,996 in January 2009, a decrease of 4.8%.
The number of new goods vehicles licensed in January 2010 was 1,016 compared with 976 in the corresponding month last year - an increase of 4.1%.
The licensing figures also show that:
- In January 2010, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 15,595 compared with 19,341 in the corresponding month last year - a decrease of 19.4%. See Table 1 below.
- The total number of all new vehicles licensed during January 2010 was 12,062 compared with 13,084 during the same month in 2009 - a decrease of 7.8%.
- In January 2010, of the 10,469 new private cars licensed, 3,686 (35.2%) were petrol and 6,339 (60.6%) were diesel. See Table 2 below.
- The highest number of new private cars licensed in January 2010, classified by make, was Ford (1,731) followed by Toyota (1,610), Renault (1,074) and Volkswagen (1,066). See Table 3 below.
The licensing figures refer to vehicles taxed for road use only and classified by taxation class. Complementary figures for vehicle registrations are available separately (Vehicle Registrations).
