Health Module- Explanatory Notes

 

This module has been commissioned by a specially created Health Liaison group. This liaison group comprises of experts in several fields of medical research. The Dept. of Health and the ESRI are also represented on this group. While the module is short and not very detailed, it will still provide an independent measure of some basic health service indicators.

This module is asked on an individual and direct basis of all persons over the age of 18 in the household.

The module has been developed in order to meet these broad aims:

• To collect information on selected areas of interest including:
• Prevalence of specific health conditions;
• Length of time on medical waiting lists;
• Type of health cover;

1. Outpatient hospital appointment (e.g. a visit to a clinic to be seen by a consultant or specialist)
2. Inpatient hospital admission (e.g. for surgery requiring overnight stay)
3. Appointment for a day care procedure or investigation (e.g. appointment for a test or minor operation that will not need an overnight stay)
