Design and Structure of New Website
Pages linked from the statistical navigators ('Statistics', 'Releases and Publications', 'Surveys and Methodology' and 'Students Corner') will provide access to a mini home page for that section where the information is categorised by theme heading and similar in layout to the ‘Statistics’ section to the upper left of the homepage. This allows the user to become more familiar with the website layout and find information more quickly.
All of the corporate navigators ('About Us', 'News and Events', 'Links', 'Contact Us', 'Copyright Policy' and 'Freedom of Information') link directly to content pages or information pages. This is also the case for Census and Database Direct.
All pages also have the same header and footer as the homepage.
Added features include:
- Breadcrumb trail under the top navigation bar to inform the user of location in website
- Drop-down menu listing ‘Statistics by Theme’ to allow the user access information in relation to any of the statistical themes from any point in the website
- ‘Print page’ and text-resize options
Other features of content pages are as follows:
- Context sensitive 'Quick Links' to the right of main content. These will change on different pages to highlight important associated information.
- Greater consistency - the Corporate and Statistical navigators including Search are always available
- Better categorisation of content - content has been re-categorised and content pages re-titled to reflect more accurately their purpose and the expectations of users.
