9th June, 2008 As part of the preparations for the next Census, a Field Trial will be carried out by CSO field staff to test the use of hand-held pocket computers. These devices will be used to track the progress of Census enumeration and record the location of dwellings. The enumerators will simulate the Delivery and Collection of Census forms and use the device to record basic information about the enumeration process.
27th February, 2008 The boundary files for Cities and Towns, Electoral Divisions (ED) and 2006 Census Enumeration Areas are being made available to download today on the CSO website. These files can only be utilised by users who have access to software which will enable them to perform their own analysis of census data within a GIS (Geographical Information Systems) environment. 19th July 2006 Today sees the release of the Preliminary Report for Census 2006. This report sets out the numbers of males and females in each Constituency and Electoral Division. These preliminary figures are based on population summaries prepared by Census Enumerators. The definitive population results, based on the scanned Census Forms, will be released between April and December 2007. The full range of census results will be released in a series of subject-matter volumes with simultaneous publication on the CSO website.

1st June 2006 Thanks to everyone for taking part in Census 2006. Almost 1.5 million completed Census Forms are now being delivered back to the Census Headquarters in Swords, Co. Dublin, where the processing operation is underway. The preliminary Census 2006 results, setting out the numbers of males and females in each Electoral Division will be published on 19th July, 2006. These preliminary figures are based on population summaries prepared by Census Enumerators. The definitive population results, based on the scanned Census Forms, will be released between April and December 2007. The full range of census results will be released in a series of subject-matter volumes with simultaneous publication on the CSO website.
4 May 2006 The collection of completed Census Form began on Monday 24th April and it will continue for four weeks up until Monday 22nd May. About a third of the completed forms (500,000) have been collected at this stage. We'd like to urge anyone whose form has yet to be collected, to support their local Enumerator
The Locall Census Helpline (1890 236 787) will be staffed to take calls from Monday to Friday : 9am to 5.30 pm Please support your local Enumerator and be part of the bigger picture!
19th April 2006 Census Enumerators have been busy delivering Census Forms to all households in the country over the last 3 weeks. By now most householders will have received their census forms. Radio Advertisements, being broadcast from 19th to 21st April, will invite anyone who has not yet received their census form to contact us, so that we can arrange to have a form delivered by the local Census Enumerator. We can be contacted for a Census Form via this website or the Census Locall Helpline. The facility to request a census form via the website will be left in place throughout the Census Weekend and most of next week. Monday to Friday : 8am to 8pm
29th March 2006 Today, the Taoiseach launched the field campaign for the 2006 Census of Population. Over the coming weeks, 4,400 Census Enumerators will make contact with householders to deliver about 1.5 million Census Forms to every household throughout the country. The Census Forms are to be kept until Census Day, April 23rd and everyone who is in the house on that night is to be included on the form.
