This is a recently formed division. The principal role of the division will be to develop crime, victimisation and criminal justice statistics in an integrated way. The division will initially be involved in developing classifications for administrative Garda data and in disseminating crime statistics based on this source. Other types of crime ('white-collar crime') will also be covered.

The division will also compile and produce information on other aspects of the criminal justice system, including the courts and prisons.

Another important part of the work of the division will be to develop statistical sources (eg household surveys) for the compilation and dissemination of a comprehensive set of statistic on victimisation.

The key objective of the division will be to develop crime, victimisation and criminal justice statistics in a coherent and consistent manner which will fully exploit potential linkages to other areas of social and demographic statistics.
